How do you start the process of deciding which home based business is THE one for YOU?

Before I made my decision, I was nervous about starting a work from home business.

  • I did a lot of research,
  • looked at different companies,
  • different team members of the organization, and
  • what was going to be the perfect fit for ME.

In other words, I didn’t just jump right in. I completed all this research before I chose my company and sponsor. Of great importance to me was to be able to find a company and sponsor which fit MY goals, values, and beliefs.

YOU need to do the same before you choose YOUR home based business. Whatever business you choose, you will be investing valuable time and money. It is for this reason alone that you will need to do your own research.

You need to also decide, before you join, that you are willing to make at least a 6 month commitment to yourself and your company. If you are not willing to make this commitment, I would suggest that you stop right here. Don’t join any company until you are serious. If you don’t listen to this advise, you will be throwing away your investment.

Here are some things you will want to look at before you make your decision:

  1. What are the startup costs?
    1. Is it under $50, $100, $500?
    2. Are there monthly commitments?
  2. Is the product consumable, meaning it is used up?
    1. A consumable product ensures repeat orders.
  3. How many US households use the product?
    1. Is it 8 out of 10?
    2. 4 out of 10?
  4. How many dollars per year are generated by the product?
    1. Millions?
    2. Billions?
  5. What is the profit margin?
    1. 25%?
    2. 50%?
  6. What is the company’s compensation plan?
    1. Are they willing to share it with you prior to joining?
  7. What resources, training are available for everyone?
  8. Is there a company website included when joining?
    1. Is it free?
    2. Is there a monthly fee?
  9. How many different ways are you allowed to earn money?
    1. Residual income
    2. Wholesale the product
    3. Retail the product
    4. Fundraising
  10. Do your goals, values, and beliefs fit with the company?

This past weekend, I went to our local museum for the Body Worlds exhibit. As a Registered Nurse and mother, I found the exhibit to be extremely intriguing. What prompted me to write this, however, was the fetal growth section. Some of you may recall that I work in Maternal-Child so of course this would be the most interesting section for me!

In the fetal development area, attendees are able to see the development of our CHILDREN from the very beginning, until birth! It started me thinking about what is really important in life. To me, my family is right up there at the top of my list.

My children are not little anymore, but I wish that I would have been able to stay home with them more than I did. My husband and I tried to alternate our work schedules so that we utilized daycare minimally. But, we still needed to supplement with daycare. Although they were most often with someone who truly loved them, I WASN'T THERE as much as I would have preferred.

A Chinese Proverb that really hit me is, "A child's life is like a piece of paper on which every person leaves a mark." WOW, how many times do parents need to place the care of their most precious child into the hands of a stranger? What kind of mark is this stranger leaving on your child? For this reason, I am truly motivated to help moms and dads become work at home parents.

How would you like to be a work from home mom or dad? Never miss your precious angel's first step, first word, first tooth, and first fall. Never have to drop your little darling off at daycare? Drive them to school so you don't have to entrust them to a stranger driving a bus? Never miss another school program or field trip? Home school your children? How would YOU like to be the one who is leaving positive marks on your child's life?

I'm sure you realize that you will never get this time back. As they say.hesitation never cashed a check!

I can help you do just this. No, this business is not a get rich quick business. It is easy, but it does take work. Let me help you realize your dream. You CAN spend more time with your family. You CAN say good-bye to your money problems. You CAN create wealth. Moms can do this business, dads can do this business, and.you can even work together as a family for your business!

With the power of the internet, you are able to reach people all over the United States (just like I've reached you)!

You may be wondering, "what's the difference between a mentor and a coach?" People will often use these words interchangeably, but they truly are not the same. Neither one is better than the other for they both have their purpose. Before you seek out one of them, you need to determine what your goal is and what outcome you are looking for.

A coach:
-Focuses on the performance with a specific agenda
-Is often "assigned" to you through your position in an organization
-Their influence is determined by the position they hold
-Is very task oriented
-Tells you what you need to do
-Rewards are in teamwork and performance

You are looking for a coach if you want someone to show you exactly what to do and
how to do it.

A mentor:
-Focuses on the individual without a specific predetermined agenda
-Is most frequently selected by the individual seeking a mentor
-Their influence is determined by the value you place on them
-Provide you with the environment for learning, finding better ways for yourself, and affirmations
-Guides and assists you in your personal growth
-Offers support, advise, and suggestions
-Asks you questions so you may dig deeper into yourself
-Rewards are in your LIFE

You are looking for a mentor if you want someone to help you to develop yourself,
both personally and professionally.

Many times, the same person will be both your coach and mentor. There is a skill needed to be able to perform these dual roles but it can be done. One thing to note is that not all great coaches are good mentors. Most often, however, great mentors are also great coaches.

There are a great many people available for mentoring. All you have to do is ask! So many people are very willing to share their knowledge with you, to let you bounce ideas off them. I suggest you find them and make use of their valuable skills. You must remember though that this is a two-way street. Coaches and mentors have their own businesses and personal lives. You must be an active participant, not just someone who expects others to do it for you.

You may hear the word e-mentoring. This is a somewhat new word. It means mentoring that is accomplished electronically. This can be through email, forums and message boards, blogging, audio/video conferencing, training calls, and this is just to name a few. There is so much to learn out there. My suggestion is to start out by getting on some training calls, incorporate what you learn into your daily plan.
